Global Trends in Energy Technology Innovation - A New Series

In a mere 100 years we have consumed the equivalent of millions of years' of years’ worth of solar energy captured by ancient microorganisms and plants, and locked up in vast oil, gas and coal reserves which are being rapidly depleted. Inevitably, we must solve our energy problems in ways that are both profitable and environmentally aware.

"Global Trends in Energy Technology Innovation -An Introduction" is the first article in a new series we will be publishing this summer on energy and sustainability. This series is being written by Wilma Pretorius, Ph.D. who is the founder and Managing Director of I&W Research, Inc. Dr Pretorius has a doctorate in analytical geochemistry, obtained from Queen’s University in Kingston, Ontario, Canada. She also has a M.Sc. Geochemistry, Summa Cum Laude, Department of Geology, Rand Afrikaans University (RAU), Johannesburg, South Africa. Prior to establishing I&W Research, Inc. Dr. Pretorius was a postdoctoral fellow in the Department of Earth and Ocean Sciences, at the Pacific Centre for Isotopic and Geochemical Research, and the Mineral Deposit Research Unit, housed at the University of British Columbia.
