As a professional wet cleaner I can tell you that wet cleaning is the best alternative to toxic solvents. I have been in cleaning businesses where CO2 is the solvent. I have seen good results and bad. The biggest problem is that there is no way to tell if a dye will bleed prior to processing. This problem is especially problematic when a multi colored garment is processed. There are also studies that cite silicon as a possible neuro toxin. More information can be found on negative effects of silicon solvent on the Canadian EPA website.
